Miracle On Miracle

It’s exciting when God gives us the privilege to see the big picture. It’s special because of all the things that have come together from a human perspective for the big picture to emerge. We step out in faith toward a God-given vision, willing to sacrifice, and in God’s perfect timing, we then experience the miracle. Miracles come in different forms and fashion, but we don’t always recognize the grandest miracles that result from long obedience in the same direction. We celebrate the instant miracle, and we should, but miracles most often happen through the faith, vision, and sacrifice of God’s people. We might say it’s how God gives us skin in the game.

The Globe House on our local college campus is one such miracle in which God’s people have been called to have skin in the game. It’s a gem of a ministry that provides low-cost housing for international students, but the housing is simply a means to an end. The primary goal is to create a place of belonging in which God can touch a life. And He is! When you talk to one of the student residents you’ll hear a recurring phrase that goes something like, “I’ve found my family here.” When people are loved, God has a way of breaking through barriers. When people see Jesus in others, they usually want to know more about Him.

The miracle was on full display at the Globe House this weekend in celebration of the mortgage being paid off completely. This was a multimillion-dollar project conceived by a dear lady, Helena Garrick, decades ago. She’s with Jesus now and was unable to see the big picture from this side of eternity, but it was her faith and vision that ignited the spark. That spark was carried on through the sacrifice of countless others resulting in the ministry we see today. How awesome is our God!

While a miracle does signify an ending, it is also a new beginning. It’s a time to renew our faith, recast the vision, and recommit to living sacrificially. This is the pattern of the Christian life. If we ever get to a place of arrival, it will certainly lead to our effectiveness being diminished. Miracles are like stepping stones, not finish lines. But thank God for the opportunity to celebrate His miracles!

Through the faith and vision of a lady and the countless sacrifices of others, our community of faith is experiencing the fruit. Mrs. Garrick caught the vision of a dual highway from our city of Norfolk to the nations and from the nations to our city. I’ve received the blessing of leading a church that reflects this dual highway and reflects the reality of heaven with different languages and cultures expressed through our community of faith. What I get the privilege to experience in worship is a part of the big picture that God had in store decades ago! If you would like a taste, check out our Tab Worship Team, here: Tab Worship

I believe Mrs. Garrick would be amazed at what the Lord has done. Miracle upon miracle!

Are we living our lives in expectation of the next miracle? We happen to serve a miracle-working God and He has an abundance of miracles yet to come. May He continue to give us faith, vision, and sacrifice!
