Riding the Wake

We’ve made it through another election cycle. We’ll be able to reclaim our televisions and cell phones from political ads for a few years. The drama and name calling did get a bit disheartening, but it was also a good catalyst to walk humbly in our calling of faith, hope, and love (1 Corinthians 13:13). It’s above our paygrade to determine outcomes but we can determine how we’re proceeding down the path. We know there will be troubles in this world; don’t let them still your joy. Politics influence our lives, and they matter, but the Kingdom of God is far superior. Politics are a mere spec in His palm!

I’m writing this on Tuesday morning so it’s not in response to any particular candidate. Whoever our new president is, we can be assured that Jesus’s sovereignty hasn’t been usurped. All of creation is moving toward His good and perfect will. Today is a day of celebration and worship because Jesus is King, and the King knows our name. His Kingdom isn’t stumbling ahead; its roaring ahead.

Imagine a way to compile all the people who choose to follow Jesus today. Across the globe, there will be those who hear and respond to the gospel. I bet it would be 1000’s of people, maybe more! Gratitude is good for the heart and today we can thank God that His Kingdom is advancing!

Jesus is the Lamb who was slaughtered, and He is the Lion who reigns (Revelation 5:5). It’s easy to walk in fear when we forget who we serve. We don’t serve a fragile Jesus who needs to be guarded and protected. We serve the Lion of Judah! His ways are not our ways, and He isn’t confined to the limitations of man. Don’t do Satan a favor by buying into the fear.  Let’s remember our Lord is the Lion!

We have a great opportunity before us to let the Lion roar. As we surrender our lives, we place ourselves walking in the wake of the Lion. It’s a position of strength and freedom because we relinquish our false gods of security and power in exchange for His. As a friend of mine often says, “nothing to prove and nothing to lose” because our lives are hidden in Christ. A life hidden in Christ is not an evasion of this world, but to move boldly into the world with allegiance solely to the King.

It's time to wake up and honor Jesus as the Lion of Judah. Jesus is our firm foundation, not a house of cards. We serve the Lion, and we experience His roar as we walk in His wake. It’s a walk defined by faith, hope, and love.

Today is a day of opportunity regardless of who won the election. Our foundation is just as firm. The Lion is still roaring. Take a moment to pause and pray for the leadership that God has appointed. Now take a moment and reaffirm allegiance to the King. Our connection to Jesus is everything. In the wake of the Lion, we have strength as we walk in faith, hope, and love.

“Look, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered so that he is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” Revelation 5:5
